Supported files and practical limits

AVIF decoding depends on your browser. Each image may contain up to 24 megapixels with a maximum side of 12,000 pixels. Total input is limited to 150 MB. Animated GIF or WebP input is converted as one still image. SVG, HEIC/HEIF, TIFF, PSD, PDF and RAW files are not accepted in this browser version.

Fit keeps the original aspect ratio. Enlargement is off by default to avoid unnecessary softness.

PNG supports transparency. Filling the background is useful when your final design needs a solid canvas.

This affects pixels only when the output is resized. It does not add detail that was not present in the source.

    WHAT PNG DOES WELL

Why convert an image to PNG?

PNG is a lossless raster image format designed to preserve pixel information rather than repeatedly discard detail through lossy compression. It is especially useful when you need transparent backgrounds, crisp interface graphics, screenshots, diagrams, logos or images that will be edited again.

Converting JPG to PNG will not restore detail that was already lost in the JPG. The practical benefit is that the resulting PNG can preserve its pixels without another lossy JPG encoding step. For transparent source images, PNG can also retain the alpha channel when the browser can decode it correctly.

    TRANSPARENCY

    Keep transparent backgrounds

PNG supports alpha transparency, making it useful for logos, product graphics, icons, overlays and design assets that should sit cleanly over another background.

    LOSSLESS

    Preserve converted pixels

PNG uses lossless compression. The conversion does not intentionally reduce image quality to meet a JPG-style quality setting or bitrate target.

    BROWSER BASED

    Convert without an account

The tool processes selected images locally in your browser. That keeps the workflow simple and avoids sending the image files to a conversion endpoint.

    HOW TO CONVERT

How to convert JPG, WebP or another image to PNG

    1. Select your files. Drag images into the converter or use Select images. You can add multiple supported files to the same batch.

    2. Choose your output settings. Keep the original dimensions or fit the image inside a maximum width and height. You can also preserve transparency or apply a solid background.

    3. Start the conversion. Select Convert to PNG. Each image is processed in sequence so the page can report the result beside the corresponding file.

    4. Download your PNG files. Use the individual Download PNG links or download the completed batch as a ZIP when several files are ready.

    FORMAT GUIDE

PNG compared with common image formats

    FormatCompressionTransparencyCommon use
PNGLosslessYesLogos, screenshots, UI graphics, diagrams and transparent assets
JPG / JPEGLossyNo alpha channelPhotographs and compact web images
WebPLossy or losslessYesModern web delivery and smaller image payloads
GIFLossless palette compressionLimited transparencySimple graphics and legacy animation workflows

Choosing PNG is mainly about the characteristics you need. If transparency, crisp edges or lossless storage matters more than the smallest possible file size, PNG can be a practical target. For large photographic images, another format may produce a smaller file.

    FAQ

    Image to PNG converter questions

Can I convert JPG to PNG for free?

Yes. This GetTransfy converter is designed for free browser-based JPG to PNG conversion without requiring an account or a watermark.

Does converting JPG to PNG improve image quality?

No. PNG conversion cannot recover detail already discarded by JPG compression. It changes the storage format and can prevent another lossy encoding step.

Can PNG keep a transparent background?

Yes. PNG supports transparency. When the source image contains transparency and the browser decodes it correctly, the converter can preserve it. You can also choose a solid background when transparency is not wanted.

Can I convert multiple images to PNG?

Yes. Add multiple supported files, convert them in one batch and use the ZIP option when at least two PNG results are ready.

Why is my PNG larger than the original JPG?

PNG is lossless and is not designed to make photographic images as small as JPG. A larger PNG can be normal, especially when the source is a compressed photograph.

Are my images uploaded to a server?

The conversion logic runs in your browser and the selected image data is not sent to a GetTransfy conversion server by this tool. Your browser still controls local file access and temporary memory used during processing.
