Image to PSD Converter
Turn common raster images into Photoshop-compatible PSD files directly in your browser. Resize, preserve transparency or choose a background, convert multiple images, and download your PSD files without sending the source image to a conversion server.

Your images stay on your device. Conversion runs locally in your browser.
PSD can retain a transparent layer when the source supports it.
Creates a flattened raster image on one PSD layer. This does not recreate editable Photoshop text, vector paths, filters or the original source layers.

Convert an image to PSD without installing software
An image to PSD converter is useful when a raster image needs to move into a Photoshop-based workflow. GetTransfy lets you turn supported JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP and browser-supported AVIF images into PSD files from a desktop or mobile browser. The conversion happens locally, so the page does not need to upload your image to a GetTransfy conversion server.
A PSD can contain layers, masks, channels and other Photoshop data, but converting a flat image cannot recover editing information that was never present in the source. This tool therefore creates a Photoshop-compatible PSD with a raster layer rather than pretending that a JPG or PNG contains original editable design layers.
What is a PSD file?
PSD is Photoshop's native document format. Adobe's current format guidance explains that PSD is designed to preserve Photoshop features such as layers, effects and masks, while the broader format specification documents the structure of Photoshop files and their image channels.
If your source is a photograph, screenshot, logo export or other flattened raster image, the sensible conversion goal is to place those pixels into a PSD container for continued work in Photoshop or compatible software. It cannot reconstruct separate text, shapes, masks or adjustment layers from a flattened picture.
Why convert JPG, PNG or WebP to PSD?
JPG to PSD
JPG is common for photographs and web images. Converting it to PSD does not restore detail lost during JPEG compression, but it can make the file easier to place into a Photoshop workflow. The output uses the pixels that existed in the JPG.
PNG to PSD
PNG is useful when transparency matters. If the source contains transparent pixels, the preserve setting keeps that transparency in the generated PSD layer. If you need an opaque result, choose a white or black background before conversion.
WebP, GIF and BMP to PSD
Animated GIF input is treated as a still image. WebP and BMP images are converted from their decoded raster pixels.
How to convert an image to PSD
- Select your images. Choose one file or add a batch of supported images. You can also drag files into the converter.
- Choose output settings. Keep the original dimensions or fit the image inside a maximum width and height. You can optionally allow upscaling.
- Set transparency. Preserve transparent pixels, or place them over a white or black background.
- Convert to PSD. The browser decodes the image and creates a PSD document locally.
- Download your files. Save individual PSD files or download the completed batch as a ZIP archive.
Tip: Keep the original source file as well. A converted PSD is useful for workflow compatibility, but it does not contain editing information that was absent from the original image.
PSD vs JPG, PNG and WebP
| Format | Best suited to | Transparency | Layered editing |
|---|---|---|---|
| PSD | Photoshop editing and design workflows | Yes | Yes, when layers are present |
| PNG | Lossless graphics and transparent web assets | Yes | No native Photoshop layer structure |
| JPG | Photographs and compact raster images | No | No |
| WebP | Modern web delivery with efficient compression | Can support it | No |
Use PSD when the next step involves Photoshop-style editing or a workflow that specifically accepts PSD. Use PNG, JPG or WebP for web delivery or compact flattened images.
Is this an online PSD converter?
Yes, but the conversion engine runs in your browser. Your selected image is decoded locally and the PSD is generated on your device. That means the page does not need a remote conversion API for the core operation. This can be useful when you prefer not to send ordinary image files to a third-party processing service.
For confidential work, use a device and browser environment that follows your organisation's security requirements.
Supported image formats and practical limits
The converter accepts PNG, JPG, JPEG/JFIF, WebP, GIF, BMP and browser-supported AVIF. Individual files are limited to 25 MB, batches to 150 MB, and decoded images to 24 megapixels with a maximum side of 12,000 pixels. These limits help keep browser memory use manageable.
SVG, HEIC/HEIF, TIFF, PSD, PDF, RAW and other document formats are not accepted as image inputs here. Browser support can vary for AVIF, so a browser that cannot decode a particular AVIF file may reject it. The tool also creates a single raster layer rather than recreating an original multi-layer Photoshop document.
Image to PSD converter FAQs
Can I convert JPG to PSD for free?
Yes. Select a JPG and use Convert to PSD. The browser creates the PSD locally, and there is no paid conversion step in the tool.
Can I convert PNG to PSD with transparency?
Yes. Choose Preserve transparency. Transparent pixels can remain transparent in the generated raster layer.
Will the converted PSD have editable Photoshop layers?
No. The source image is flattened, so the converter creates a PSD containing the decoded image as a raster layer. It does not invent separate text, vector, adjustment or effect layers.
Can I convert several images to PSD at once?
Yes. You can add up to 30 supported images within the stated size limits, convert them in one session, and download individual files or a ZIP.
Does converting JPG to PSD improve image quality?
No. PSD is a different container and workflow format. It cannot restore detail that was already lost through JPG compression or a small source resolution.
Can I use the PSD in Photoshop?
The output is structured as a standard RGB 8-bit PSD with a raster layer and composite image data, intended for Photoshop-compatible software. Open the file in your target application and check the result before production use.
Convert your image to PSD
Start with a supported image, choose your dimensions and transparency preference, and create a Photoshop-compatible PSD directly in your browser.
Format note: PSD can preserve complex Photoshop document structures, but this converter intentionally creates a lightweight raster-layer document from the source image.
