Choose clear source artwork
Add your image from your device. A square PNG with a transparent background works well for logos. JPG and WebP images work too, though an opaque background will remain part of the artwork.

Make an icon that fits your website or desktop. Convert PNG, JPG and WebP images into an ICO file with the sizes you need, while keeping control of cropping and transparency.

*AVIF requires browser decoding support. Total input is limited to 150 MB; each image may contain up to 24 megapixels with a maximum side of 12,000 px. SVG, HEIC/HEIF, TIFF, PSD, PDF and existing ICO files are not accepted. Animated images contribute one still frame. Output contains PNG-backed icon entries for software that supports modern ICO files.
Fit keeps the whole image. Crop can trim the edges.
Adds space inside the icon. Start at 0 for tiny favicons.
Off by default. Enlarging a small source can look soft.

THREE SIMPLE STEPS
Add your image from your device. A square PNG with a transparent background works well for logos. JPG and WebP images work too, though an opaque background will remain part of the artwork.
Use the favicon preset, select all sizes or choose individual dimensions. Fit the full image inside the square, or centre-crop a photo. Keep transparency or choose a solid background.
Check the generated preview and size list beside each file, then download the ICO. For a batch, save every successful result in one ZIP. Changing settings clears old results so you can convert again.
MORE THAN A FILE EXTENSION
ICO is an icon container commonly used for Windows icons and website favicons. One file can hold several versions of the same artwork at different pixel sizes, allowing compatible software to choose a suitable image.
This converter renders your source separately at each selected size and packages those images into a single ICO. It uses PNG-backed entries to retain colour and alpha transparency. Renaming a JPG or PNG to .ico does not create that container.
ICO is a raster format, so converting a small picture cannot turn it into a scalable vector. Start with clean artwork at least as large as your largest selected size. If a legacy application needs bitmap-only ICO entries, this PNG-backed output may not be suitable.
Use the dimensions your website or application needs. More sizes give compatible software more options, but also add to the file size.
| Selection | Included sizes | When it helps |
|---|---|---|
| Favicon set | 16, 32, 48 and 64 px | A compact starting point for a website icon used on browser and search surfaces. |
| All sizes | 16, 24, 32, 48, 64, 128 and 256 px | Artwork intended for different desktop views and display scales, where the application supports these entries. |
| 256 only | 256 × 256 px | A single large entry when your target workflow specifically requests it. |
| Custom selection | Any of the seven available sizes | A defined specification, or a smaller file containing only the sizes you use. |
For Google Search, use square, representative brand artwork. Google recommends a favicon larger than 48 × 48 px; the favicon preset includes 64 × 64. Search display is not guaranteed. Read Google’s favicon guidance.
PNG is a useful source when your logo already has transparency. Choose Keep transparency and Fit whole image to retain the full artwork. A white area painted into the PNG stays white; the converter does not remove backgrounds.
JPG has no alpha transparency. Centre crop can help a rectangular photo fill the square, while Fit adds space around it. Transparent padding will not remove the background inside the original photograph.
A still WebP can become an ICO while retaining existing transparency. GIF and BMP inputs are also accepted. AVIF depends on browser decoding support; animated inputs contribute one still image.
Download an icon, rename it favicon.ico if desired, and upload it to a public location on your website. Add this link inside your page’s <head> section:
The example assumes the file is stored at your domain’s root. If you use another folder, update the path. Add the line only once. A CMS or theme may manage the favicon for you; check its site-icon settings before adding another favicon link.
Open the icon URL directly to confirm it loads. If an old icon remains in a browser tab, try a private window or clear the relevant cache. Search engines may take additional time to recrawl your homepage and icon.
Yes. There is no payment step, account requirement or watermark. Files are processed in your browser within the limits shown above. Your original image files are not overwritten.
Yes. Select several dimensions and the converter writes them as separate entries inside one ICO per source image. This is different from a ZIP, which contains the separate ICO files created from a batch.
No. Existing transparency can be retained, or transparent areas can be filled with a solid colour. An opaque white or coloured background remains part of the source unless you remove it in an image editor first.
Each selected entry has the requested square dimensions. With enlargement off, small artwork stays at its original size and is centred inside that square. Enable Enlarge smaller artwork to scale it up, knowing that missing detail cannot be recovered.
Yes. Add up to 30 images, choose shared settings and convert. Each image gets its own ICO. You can override the size preset on individual rows and download successful results separately or in a ZIP.
This tool uses lossless PNG encoding for the rendered icon entries. Pixel dimensions, source detail, framing and resizing matter for the visible result. A print-DPI setting would not add detail to a 16 × 16 icon.
Not in this version. Export a PNG or JPG from your source application first. Supported inputs are PNG, JPG/JPEG/JFIF, WebP, GIF and BMP, with AVIF available when your browser can decode it.
The layout and controls are designed for mobile and desktop browsers with Canvas support. Use smaller batches on devices with limited memory. Download and ZIP handling depends on your browser and operating system.
The converter reads only the files you select and creates output in browser memory. It does not upload those images or save them in an account. Clear the queue or close the page when finished; files you download remain wherever you saved them.
